Its done!!

Wrote GMAT today and got 700 :-) or :-(

Quant SS -50 , %ile - 95
Verbal SS- 34, %ile - 72
Total SS - 700, %ile - 93

I don't know if its a good score but right I am not to happy about it. Verbal score is a bit too low for my liking. I know that this is close to or greater than the median range for schools I am applying to, but that’s just not sufficient. I thought I could gain an advantage through GMAT and most Indians do get 730+. I am angry about the fact that couple of weeks back I realized what I need to do to get my verbal on track, had a plan but didn’t execute it completely. If I had, I am sure I would have been looking at 730-740 now.
My AWA essays were not great either. I haven't got a score yet so can't really say how that affects the situation. My first essay was decent but the second one was crap. I'd probably be embarrassed to read it again.
Right now I feel like throwing my laptop for the balcony!!! But then I wouldn't be able to complete this post. (Also, I know I can’t do that so let me just throw this cushion to the other end of the room. There it goes; thank god I didn’t break anything!)

I am writing TOEFL on the 24th and hope a good score there can in someway counter a poor GMAT verbal.

Feel like I lost an opportunity and in today’s world if you do that, you get left behind.

Whatever!!!, GMATs done and its time to party again, I am outta here>>>

Congrats Anand!! I think that's a great score.

Maybe if you practised using correct grammar and spelling on your weblog, your verbal score wouldn't be so low. The first three sentences of this post alone were almost unreadably bad.

Anand,

700 is a great score. Wait until you get your AWA back before deciding what to do. If your essays are strong verbally and your AWA is strong, this shouldn't be an issue.

Most top schools prefer percentiles above 80% for both quant and verbal, keep that in mind.

High five, and way to pull through!

Oh my damn! You broke the 700+ ceiling. Not happy with the A. Need an A+ huh? Despite the sweet and sour dish your eating right now... I just gotta say that I'm proud of your accomplishment, your consistant efforts and your ability to stay on mission. Yeah I know... you reflect back and thing... uh now I wasn't. I could have focused much more. You did better than 91% of more than 250,000 people or so who took this test. That's an A in the largest of global terms and in the University of self-effort. Congratulations. I stand in clapping ovation.

congrats anand. 700 is a good score. sure, more is always better, but if you are thinking of retaking, i'll suggest that you consider spending that time and effort working on essays. a great essay can overcome that extra 30-40 points on the GMAT anyday. good luck !

hey anand - that's a good score. no doubt about that. although the indian pool is pretty competitive, but still 700 is a 91 percentile....and i will second Poweryogi -its the essays that are more important.

all the best - and chill out for now !

sorry - read it wrong - 700 is 93 percentile....;)

700 is a good score to compete in any of your target schools. Rest assured that you wont be discounted because of the 700. The only thing that I would worry about a little (as Redwolf mentioned) is the balance between Quant and Verbal. Your score seems to reflect that you kick ass in Quant but are a little weak in Verbal. Because you are taking the TOEFL, you have an opportunity to get a great score there and make up for the low verbal there. If you can nail the TOEFL, I dont think there is need to retake the GMAT. All the best!

Business Schools concentrate on the total score and then the quant score. They want to know if you can do the work that you'll encounter. With a score like that I'm sure you can do the work.
